Plans to light up the Munster Blackwater river as a special Gathering event are taking shape with local sports clubs, children’s clubs and community groups being invited on the evening of the longest day of the year, June 21st, to arrange an event and invite friends and relatives to the banks of the river along the Blackwater Valley throughout the counties of Waterford, Cork and Kerry.

The aim is to have an aerial picture of various points on the ‘lit’ river, so people are invited at around dusk to light up their area of the river with car lights, boat lights, lanterns, candles, torches and even bonfires and to celebrate the occasion with BBQs, music and festivals.

A final meeting point in Youghal, where the river meets the sea, is been organised at present. Proposal forms are now available for completion and return to the organisers or, alternativerly they can be completed online on the Light the Munster Blackwater River Facebook page. Organisers want to know of people’s plans and they’ll post a list of the various events on Facebbok so people can see what’s being organised. You can e-mail organisers on ltmbr@live.ie.
