Fermoy Tidy Towns in conjunction with FAS have earmarked their next project - a clean up of Kevin Barry Hill - at the back of St Colman's College.

Councillors Noel McCarthy and Tadhg O'Donovan, Chairman and PRO of the Tidy Towns Committee respectively, welcomed the news and thanked all concerned, especially Mayor Michael Hanley who sought the assistance and co-operation of various parties in having the work done. They also thanked John Feeney of FAS for his work. A clean up of the site is the first phase after which draft proposals will be brought forward as to how it can be enhanced.

St Colman's students are also involved in the initiative, having worked on the draft proposals. The Tidy Towns Committee hopes to get others in the educational sector involved in such schemes by having them identify derelict sites and any areas or issues that are detrimental to the town and presenting a report on them to the Tidy Towns Committee.

"We hope this will be the first of many such initiatives," Councillor Noel McCarthy said.
