Members of Castlelyons Community Council have set themselves the ambitious target of chronicling the details of every house (occupied or derlelict) in the parish as part of their contribution to The Gathering.
House information (when it was built, history pertaining to the dwelling, current and past occupants and any other data deemed relevant) will be documented, collated and presented in book format for the Castlelyons Gathering Festival which runs from August 1 to 5.
Speaking at a recent meeting outlining the project, Castlelyons Gathering chairman, Nelius O'Flynn conceded it was a major undertaking but was very doable with the necessary support and goodwill.
"The project has been in the pipeline for some time and a lot of work has gone it to get to this stage. Following on from tonight's meeting, volunteers will be going door to door in Castlelyons parish seeking the necessary information from parishioners, this project has the potential to be a unique record of houses in the parish and should prove invaluable for future generations," Mr O'Flynn told the meeting. Those behind the initiative would also welcome historical photographs, newspaper cuttings and material sutiable for an exhibition.
Fr Ferris Community Field will be the centrepiece of Gathering celebrations in Castlelyons and clubs and voluntary groups are being encouraged to participate in festivities.
