The smaller of Lismore’s two bridges is to be looked at with a view to widening it, a meeting of the Joint Policing Committee in the town was told on Monday evening.

New town manager, Paul Daly, said the NRA was looking at putting a splay in on the narrower bridge to give more room to manoeuvre, especially for trucks and large vehicles. He advised that a grant had been received from the NRA to extend the study of the bridges, however he stressed that the NRA does not have the funding this year or next to do the works. “It’ll be two years from now,” he told members.

It had been suggested previously that traffic lights operate on the bridges to give traffic more room to cross them. It was in response to that suggestion that the NRA report had proposed instead the splay works outlined by the town manager.
