Letter floats from Leeds to Kildorrery in two days
Games, singing, treasure hunts, treats and more and all of them 'as Gaeilge', were enjoyed by more than 40 children last week in Glenroe National School, in the Gleann Rua Easter Campa which brought Irish into the activities in a fun way, ahead of their plans to convert to a Gaelscoil.
The level of demand was so high that the school had to turn away some applicants, but they are advising people to book early in future to avoid disappointment.
Over the course of three days, children of all ages did arts and crafts, sports, games, baking, dancing, table quizzes, dance and music and by using the Irish language in these activities, it made it fun and more accessible.
On the final day, the children sounded comfortable and confident in their use of Irish through little plays and performances they did through Irish and, judging by the smiles and gleeful giggles, it was clear that the children really enjoyed the camp which also offered something unique and different for their Easter holidays.
The school would like to thank all of the parents, teachers, Board of Management and other volunteers who helped out to make the camp such a big success.
The next step is to move towards becoming a Gaelscoil, while using Irish more frequently in the school, to ensure that the children are comfortable with it.
For those interested in enrolling in September, or anyone who wants to find out more about Scoil Mhuire Gleann Rua, contact the school on 063-86080.
