Burncourt National School will officially open their extension and mark teacher Helen Russell’s retirement, this coming Saturday, May 18. The school will be open from 4pm until 7pm and there will be a Mass afterwards, followed by refreshments in the community centre.

Invitations for the event have been extended to parents, past pupils and members of the community. The extension will be opened by Principal Pat O’Callaghan and it will also be Helen Russell’s final duty for the national school, which has been such a big part of her life.

The extension has been in use since the school year began, making life much easier for students and teachers alike, as it has given them a lot more storage space. They now have a principal’s office, computer room, a disabled access toilet, a staff room/special needs room, a new teacher’s toilet and a store room.
