Making the transition from primary school to secondary can be difficult, but the new girls in Presentation Secondary School in Mitchelstown seemed to be settling into life very comfortably.

While some had come from class sizes of less than 20 to suddenly having more than 50 in their class year, for others, the transition was easier, as they had just crossed the yard and come from Bunscoil na Toirbhirte.

Orla Desmond, from Glanworth, had 13 in her primary school class, but said that she loved the opportunity to make a lot of new friends and while the classes are longer and she now has homework at weekends, she is so far enjoying the experience.

Similarly, Margaret Jackson, from Kildorrery, came from a class of 18 and she said that one of the most interesting things about starting secondary school was the variety of new subjects that she now gets to try out, as well as meeting a lot of new people.

Evelyn Fox, from Glenahulla, also came from a small class size of just 12 and she said that while she knew everybody in her primary school, it will take a bit longer for her to get used to all of the new faces in the Presentation Secondary.

For Eadaoin Joy from Bunscoil na Toirbhirte, the change was much smaller, as she came from a class of 32 and would be very familiar with the secondary school, given their close proximity to it.
