A celebration for all at Marymount Hospice’s award-winning gardens

The gardens at Marymount.

The public are invited to participate in a heart-warming and nature-filled afternoon at Marymount Hospice next month, as they open the gates to their award-winning gardens.

Taking place on Thursday, 7th August from 12pm to 3pm, this unique gathering invites the public to experience the beauty of the Marymount Gardens, designed by Adam Hunt and Valerie Bond – winners of the prestigious RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2022 Best in Show – in collaboration with acclaimed West Cork landscaper, Colm Cronin.

Thoughtfully envisioned and lovingly created, the gardens feature three stunning spaces: The Arrival Garden, The Remembrance Garden and a wildflower meadow, nestled on a land protected fairy fort. Two tranquil ponds, thriving with life, enrich the garden’s biodiversity, offering a peaceful haven where people and nature exist in harmony.

Highlights of the day include a live performance by Cork’s own John Spillane, known for his rich storytelling, soulful voice, and deep love of Irish heritage. With songs inspired by the people, places, and language of Ireland, sit back, relax, and enjoy a magical musical journey with one of Ireland’s most cherished performers.

Bugs, Bees & Beyond

A fun, hands-on experience that reveals just how important (and amazing!) our smallest neighbours really are.

Bats of Ballinora and Beyond

Also, Join local wildlife enthusiast Pat Tuite for a fascinating dive into the nocturnal world of bats! Pat will share insights from his recent survey of the bats in the Ballinora and Waterfall area, offering a glimpse into the lives of these mysterious creatures.

A string trio from Cork School of Music will give a performance in the Garden of Remembrance, while there will be plenty of family fun, with face painting and ice cream.

This free to attend welcomes people of all ages. Join in celebrating nature and community at Marymount Hospice, on Thursday, 7th August from 12pm to 3pm.
