In a crowed Dublin street, Sean Treacy died on a dim October day. The massive manhunt that followed in the immediate aftermath of the Soloheadbeg ambush that began the Irish War of Independence on January 21st 1919, was the most intensive ever experienced since the Fenian Rising of 1867 in the Premier County at nearby Ballyhurst.

Much confusion still remains about who decided on the military action. Today, 94 years later, much remains to be revealed and established about this event.

Sean Treacy, one of the men of Soloheadbeg who was killed in action by British Crown forces in Talbot Street, Dublin on 14-10-1920 will be commemorated by Mass in Kilfeakle Church at 2-15pm followed at 3pm by a parade to the adjoining cemetery where an oration will be delivered by Mr Tom Meaney of Millstreet, Co Cork.

While grass grows green in Ireland we’ll think of you dear Sean,

We’ll sing your praise through hill and dale till grief and gloom are gone.

And when the dawn of freedoms sun shines out in Erin’s skies,

In the Gaelic tongue we’ll tell our sons how brave Sean Treacy died.
