The legend is back. The first new Ford Capri in almost four decades are swaggering onto the streets of Marseille to start a new chapter in the history of a cult classic.
First introduced in 1969 to bring affordable sports coupe style and performance to customers in Europe, Capri was already a motoring icon by the end of production in 1986. In that time, more than 1.8 million were produced.
Now, the new all-electric Capri is set to turn a new generation of heads in Marseille and across Europe with production underway at Ford’s new factory of the future – the Cologne Electric Vehicle Center – and the first cars already on their way to customers.
The new Capri rewires the classic’s design, rebellious spirit and driving fun for the electric age. A true electric sports coupe for the family with heritage like no other car of its kind, its attitude is amplified on the outside by larger-than-life colours like Vivid Yellow and Blue My Mind.
And the experience is just as exciting from behind the “squircle” steering wheel.
The new Capri was engineered in Europe for European drivers. Ford specialists at the company’s development centres in Cologne, Germany, and Lommel Belgium, fine-tuned the suspension, steering and chassis for a responsive driving feel that’s worthy of the Capri badge.

Capri’s ride height and roof height help give the coupe a lower centre of gravity, which helps it stay more level around corners for those sporty sensations.
“The classic Capri didn’t just look like a sporty coupe – the fun it put into driving was a huge part of its appeal. Reproducing that ‘fizz’ from the driver’s seat was really important to us when we developed the new all-electric Capri,” said Geert van Noyen, manager, Vehicle Dynamics.
A choice of two electric powertrains means smooth acceleration. The 286 PS rear-wheel drive model 1,2 can go from 0-100 km/h in 6.4 seconds. The 340 PS all-wheel drive model 2,3 can go from 0‑100 km/h in 5.3 seconds.
There’s also a Sport option for the Selectable Drive Modes 4 that makes the accelerator pedal more responsive, dials up the steering feedback and has been specially tuned for Capri to adjust electronic stability control for a unique feel.
And for those long family road trips, Capri’s quiet and refined electric performance lets kids snooze in the three rear seats while advanced technologies help smoothly change lanes on the highway at the flick of a switch, or automatically keep pace with traffic ahead. 4
“Every day, more and more drivers are learning that the benefits of electric don’t end at zero emissions while driving,” said Ulrich Koesters, director, Electric Vehicles. “It’s electric technology that’s helped us capture the true Capri spirit for a whole new generation – rebellious, cool and athletic whether heading to Saint‑Tropez or the school run.”
