This year, over 1,300 performers will take to a specially constructed Christmas stage in the Arrivals area of Cork Airport, including primary and secondary school children from across Cork city and county, local orchestral ensembles, traditional music groups, choral societies and community choirs.
The Christmas spirit officially touched down at Cork Airport last Thursday (28th) as the Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Dan Boyle, switched on the airport’s Christmas lights, in what should be a bumper month, when a total of 200,000 arriving and departing passengers will be catered for. Extensive preparations have been made to create a festive ambience, with Christmas decorations carefully installed throughout the building over the past number of weeks by the airport’s asset care team.
Passengers arriving during December will be greeted by one of the highlights of the annual Christmas programme – a choir and music performances in the Arrivals area. Over 1,300 performers will entertain those arriving, between 2nd December and 24th December, and schools and other performing artists featuring include the Castlelyons Gospel Choir, Riverstown National School, Scoil Bhríde, Midleton and the Cork Light Orchestra.
MILESTONE
By the end of December, total passenger numbers at Ireland’s fastest-growing airport are expected to exceed the 3 million mark in 2024, setting a new record for being the busiest year for international passenger traffic in the airport’s history. Managing Director at Cork Airport, Niall MacCarthy, said they were ‘proud to facilitate the reunions of thousands of families this Christmas.’
“Our dedicated staff has worked tirelessly to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, ensuring that everyone feels the magic of Christmas as soon as they arrive home in Cork. We wish everyone a safe journey home and an enjoyable Christmas with their loved ones.”
