Strong local representation for Winter Special Olympics

Eight athletes make up this year’s Floorball Team for the next Special Olympics World Winter Games and not only are all eight from the Munster region, there are no fewer than five from The Avondhu catchment area.

This year’s team is made of Frank O’Dwyer from Ballylanders, Co Limerick, Joseph Sheehan from Doneraile along with Gavin Bourke, Jack Buckley, and James Hunter, all from Mallow. They are joined by Niall Corcoran from Ballinhassig as well as James Upton from Passage East in Waterford and Damien Kirwan from Waterford City.

FRANK O’DWYER

Now 30, Ballylanders’ Frank O’Dwyer has been active in Special Olympics with Tipperary Special Olympics Club, Munster for 12 years. In that time, he has won 10 medals representing both Team Munster and Team Ireland in a range of sports including basketball, swimming, athletics, football and floorball.
