Founded in 1899, Sunday’s Well Boating & Tennis Club is currently celebrating its 125th anniversary. The club recently hosted their annual ‘Mary Collins Tennis Tournament’, which generated €5,535 for Edel House, Good Shepherd Cork’s shelter for women and children who are homeless.
For the second year in a row, Edel House benefited from proceeds raised at the event which was sponsored by Alive Coaching and dairy co-operative, Ornua. In addition to its funding contribution, Ornua has also donated mobile phones to Good Shepherd Cork, and will be facilitating volunteering for its employees with the local charity in the run up to the busy Christmas period.
Speaking at the cheque handover at Edel House, Sr. Jane Murphy, Good Shepherd Cork, said they were ‘extremely grateful’ to be the beneficiaries of the event.
“On behalf of the management and staff at Edel House, we are delighted to be the chosen charity again this year, and we are extremely grateful to Sunday’s Well Boating & Tennis Club for hosting this fantastic fundraising event. We are particularly grateful to the sponsors who have generously supported our work this year, including Alive Coaching and Ornua. It’s very much appreciated by all of us at Good Shepherd Cork”.
Speaking on behalf of Alive Coaching, Tom Hennessy said: “The funds raised will be used to address the root causes of homelessness and social exclusion, and aim to break the cycle of homelessness through generations, which is why we are proud to sponsor the event again this year”.
While Jenifer Tangney, Group Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Ornua added that the company were “proud to support the vital work of Good Shepherd Cork which has a transformational impact on many lives within the community”.
