Earlier this week, The Avondhu sat with students from the three secondary schools in Mitchelstown to discuss all things politics. Nine 18-year-olds from CBS, Presentation Secondary School and Coláiste Fionnchua shared their insights ahead of the next general election – which candidates may do well to take note of.

Five of the students are studying Politics and Society formally as a Leaving Cert subject: Emily Darrer Dalton, Meadhbh Kenneally and Ali O’Donnell from Presentation Secondary School, and Micheál Egan and Cillian Fraher from CBS. They are taught in the same class, where there are a total of 11 girls and three boys.

The Coláiste Fionnchua students Callum Martin, Abbie Cleary, Amelia Kennedy and Hazel O’Brien, do not study the subject formally. The students on Tuesday represent three different electoral areas; Cork East, South Tipperary and Limerick County.
