Gardaí have issued a warning to businesses in north Cork and surrounding areas as counterfeit money may be in circulation in the area.
A spokesperson for An Garda Síochana confirmed to The Avondhu that a substantial amount of counterfeit notes, to the value of €10,860, were seized recently following a search of a residence in Mallow.
“Gardaí have seized counterfeit notes following the search of a residence in the Mallow area at approximately 4pm on Tuesday, 15th October 2024. The counterfeit notes had a value of €10,860. Investigation is ongoing,” the spokesperson said.
Online, An Garda Síochana issued a warning to the public, having received reports of fake notes being tendered in the area.
“Gardai in Mallow carried out a search today and recovered a large quantity of fake money. Businesses are advised to be vigilant as some of these notes may still be in circulation,” Gardaí said at the time.
Images of the counterfeit cash, as shared with the warning, display largely €20 notes, which have annotated along the left-hand side of the note: ‘This is not legal. It is to be used for motion props only’. While under the European flag on the notes reads: ‘MovieMoney’.
