Proceeds of a fundraiser held by the Fermoy Palestine Solidarity Campaign were presented to Mahmoud and Alba Shaldan on Friday at Kent Bridge, as their family continue to seek a way out of Gaza. The fundraiser began as Mahmoud sought to raise funds to get his sister-in-law, Ola and her children to Cairo to get the care they needed, and saw the Fermoy group committing to help raise the remainder of the funds needed.

Speaking with The Avondhu on Friday last, Mahmoud explained that Ola and her children, Zainah and Kareem, remain in Gaza, with currently ‘no hope’ of joining their family in Cairo due to the ongoing situation. Currently, the plan is to have the money sent to them, to support the family as they continue to seek a way out.

Gaza was subjected to heavy bombardment in November 2023 that saw Ola Masoud’s neighbour’s house directly hit, and Ola’s husband died as a result. At the time, Ola was pregnant with her second child.
