Fermoy's Christy Dorgan always had great hopes for his publication 'Irish Birds Their Nests And Eggs'. Ever before it rolled off the presses in 2008, he believed the book would have, not just local, but national and international appeal. 5 years on, 4 reprints later, the dream is still very much alive for this life-long wildlife enthusiast.
Getting a book on the shelves of this country's most popular tourist attractions is a major achievement, but to see all those locations continually placing orders for additional copies is something that Christy can be justifiably proud of. Already, Trinity College Dublin, Dublin Zoo, The National History Museum (Dublin), Muckross House and the Cliffs of Moher Experience are all regular customers - to cap it all off, the book has emerged as a bestseller in the National Botanical Gardens in Glasnevin.
MORE CONTENT
Demand had necessitated yet another reprint, in this instance it's a revised and updated version complete with extra full page plates (pictures) featuring animals, birds and reptiles. In recognition of the individuals and companies who helped get the project off the ground in 2008, Christy continues to include all their names at the back of the book.
"I got great support from schools, businesses and others who wanted to help and every copy includes these credits," says Christy, who goes on to say that his bird book is a therapeutic read.
"The book celebrates the wonder of creation and is accessible to all ages, people get a lift from reading it and I like to think it inspires people," says Christy.
