Ushering in a bold new look and enhanced technology for Renault’s iconic supermini, the new Clio is available to order now, priced from €24,845.
The latest generation of France’s best-selling car, which has sold almost 60,000 units in Ireland, has undergone a new reinvention for the modern world, becoming a perfect illustration of Renault’s New Wave brimming with its latest breakthroughs. New Clio adds a contemporary and cutting-edge twist to what is considered by many to be one of the most emblematic city cars available. The E-Tech full hybrid powertrain brings Clio up-to-the-minute in a new electrified world, ensuring the model’s popularity and incredible success are set to continue.
Ever since its introduction in 1991 the Clio has been known for its chic looks, and the New Clio continues its status as an automotive style icon. It debuts with a more assertive and elegant exterior that showcases Renault’s new design language. Notably, its completely redesigned front end boasts taut lines for an overtly sporty look and features the brand’s new signature lighting that is inspired by the Nouvel’R logo and incorporates slender full-LED headlamps.
New Clio is just as impressive under its sleek new exterior, too. In E-Tech full hybrid form, it complements its elegant, high-tech style with an electrified drivetrain that is at the forefront of hybrid technology, and which is designed to perfectly meet the requirements of today’s drivers. Combining efficiency with optimum usability, the advanced powertrain means it is ideal for both city dwellers and those whose travel is focused more on motorways than urban roads.
The petrol/electric hybrid produces 145hp for effortless, strong performance and offers a range of up to 880km, while also emitting as little as 96g/km CO2 and returning as much as 4.2l/100km combined (WLTP). The latest Clio can use the electric motor up to 80 percent of the time in cities – cutting fuel consumption by up to 40 percent compared to a conventional petrol engine – with the benefits of near silent running. For those customers who prefer a more analogue driving experience, the TCe 90 petrol engine with 6-speed manual gearbox produces emissions of 118g/km while delivering fuel consumption of 5.2l/100km.
The advanced technology extends to the availability of up to 17 ADAS functions, including those usually found on much larger and more expensive vehicles, such as adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning, and rear cross traffic alert.
Inside, the chic interior mirrors the highly contemporary, sophisticated feel of the stylish exterior. Noted as a highlight of the previous Clio, it is improved further still in the New Clio. Core to Renault’s new people-centric, tech-focused design, the welcoming interior now benefits from more sustainable materials and a significant leap in quality. Importantly, there is no leather: instead, the surfaces are covered in TEP, a grained coated fabric made of bio-sourced and recycled polyethylene fibres.
Each version has its own unique trim, with the techno and esprit Alpine both featuring the new synthetic leather. Additionally, the seats, door panels, and dashboard of the techno trim are clad in a specially developed sustainable fabric that comprises up to 60 per cent TENCEL Modal branded fibres. The New Clio is not only the first car that features this bio-based cellulosic fibre, but it is also the first time these sustainable fibres have been used extensively in a vehicle.
Customers of the New Clio have a choice of three generously-equipped trim levels – Evolution, Techno and the top-of-the-range esprit Alpine.
A comprehensive standard specification merges convenience and comfort to provide today’s supermini customer with the increased levels of connectivity, safety and refinement that they demand. Features shared across the range include diamond-cut alloy wheels, electrically folding and heated door mirrors, hands-free key card, automatic air conditioning, full LED headlights and rear lights, Easy Link touchscreen with built-in navigation and wireless smartphone integration with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, one-touch electric front windows and the ECO mode function that optimises environmentally friendly driving.
The Evolution trim starts the new, streamlined Clio range, priced from €24,845. Its additional standard equipment includes a 7-inch digital driver display, 7-inch Easy Link touchscreen, 16-inch alloy wheels, and rear parking sensors.
The mid-range Techno trim adds features that include a reversing camera, 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors, shark fin antenna, wireless phone charger, and MULTI-SENSE with ambient lighting. It costs from €26,545.
At the top of the range is the Esprit Alpine –the new level of trim that recently made its debut in the all-new Renault Austral E-Tech full hybrid. Now available for the New Clio, it intertwines the Alpine brand’s sporting hallmarks and Renault’s adventurous new style with the addition of standard features such as unique ‘Alpine’ embossed 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, Matte Shadow Grey front blade, distinctive enveloping seats with blue overstitching and Alpine detailing, heated front seats and steering wheel, 10-inch digital driver display, 9.3-inch Easy Link touchscreen, adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning and rear cross traffic alert. One of the most well-equipped versions of the Clio ever, the esprit Alpine is priced from €28,345.
