Santa Claus is coming to town!

The stage is set and the excitement is building for the big switch-on of Christmas lights in Mitchelstown this coming Saturday night (18th), while Fermoy looks forward to the festivities being in full swing on Saturday next week, November 25th.

MITCHELSTOWN SWITCH-ON

On Saturday in New Market Square, Mitchelstown at 6pm, it will be time to kick off the season throughout north Cork, celebrating the imminent close of 2023. 

Keen observers will have noticed the tell-tale signs of Christmas, as the bright lights were installed recently throughout the town as well as the return of the ‘Aldi’ centrepiece in New Market Square. Other businesses have teased the beginning of the shopping season with gay lights already up in the windows of O’Sullivan’s, seasonal window-dressing in the The Favourite and Horan’s Healthstore, and Christmas PJs in the window of the Self Help Africa shop.

On Saturday evening the host for the big celebration will be Martin Lane, with the Mrs Claus Treasure Hunt kicking off at 4pm. This will continue until 5.30pm, with tractors arriving in the Square shortly thereafter

Martin will countdown to the arrival of Mrs Claus, accompanied by the main man himself, Santa Claus! Wrap up warm, and join in the fun, which will be videoed live by Murat Terzi.

FERMOY

Festive Fermoy will be in full swing on Saturday, 25th November as the town hosts its annual Christmas light switch-on. The 2023 switch-on is expected to be as big and bright as ever, with some traditional favourites and some new additions to the event.

As always, Santa is set to make an appearance at the annual event, which takes place at 6pm on Saturday, and a fantastic fireworks display will be visible from the quays once Fermoy is officially lit up for Christmas, from outside Synergy Credit Union on Patrick Street.

Fermoy Christmas Lights Committee have thanked all those who have contributed to this year’s Christmas lights, and fundraising continues for the cause, which is in excess of €40,000 each year.
