The Irish Dairy Board announced this week that they will be building a state of the art Kerrygold butter packing plant in Mitchelstown and the €30 million investment will bring with it 50 jobs for the town.
The plant will be located on a dedicated site at Dairygold's Castlefarm and it forms part of the strategic investment plan to grow the Kerrygold brand, post 2015.
"The state of the art facility will support the future growth and development of the Kerrygold brand in a range of packing formats on a single site.
"The new facility will provide full supply chain integrity, will centralise NPD and innovation capability for Kerrygold and will be a dedicated Customer Centre of Excellence for the Irish Dairy Board. It will also play an important business continuity role for group operations," a spokesperson for The Irish Dairy Board said.
The new plant will create 50 full time jobs, but there will also be a great boost to the construction industry while it is being developed.
Cllr Kevin O'Keeffe told The Avondhu that this announcement shows that Mitchelstown is an ideal place for investment and it will be bring with it a huge boost for the dairy industry in North Cork.
Deputy Tom Barry said that this is really good news on the jobs front for North Cork and it is great to have a worldwide brand working from Mitchelstown.

"Dairy is set to become a vital employer as the region moves back to its natural area of comparable advantage, which was always food based," he told The Avondhu.
Kay Dawson is delighted to welcome the Irish Dairy Board decision to locate in Mitchelstown. She said that this will mean jobs for the town's people during the construction phase and when full production commences. The local election candidate also congratulated Dairygold in securing this employment for the town and hinterland.
Cllr Frank O'Flynn said that this is great news for Mitchelstown, with the potential for extra jobs while the plant is being constructed. He said that it will be a great boost for the local economy.
This announcement is coupled with the very positive reports for last year from the Irish Dairy Board with an 87% hike in pre-tax profits for last year, up to €22.8 million while turnover was also up by 5%.
