We read again this week of the problems being experienced by the people of Kildorrery regarding a proper water supply. While the leaks may have been attended to, the problem of a severe lack of pressure still persists, and while the council may blame the good weather, locals are insistent that problem was there before the fine spell.

This follows our story last week of a leak to a main in Kilworth that has been waiting no less than four years to be repaired! And on top of all that, we hear Mattie McGrath complain this week that it now apppears there is to be no emergency coverage in place when water problems occur outside of business hours and at weekends in South Tipperary.

So, should a household or business in that neck of the woods be faced with a burst pipe or sewerage problem on a Friday evening, they will have to wait a minimum of 60 hours for a response?

Deputy McGrath reminds us that Irish Water spent over €50 million on consultancy fees and at least €55,000 on a gym for its employees. We were asked to pay a household charge which most of us have done, the proceeds of which were promised to be spent on local services.

Phil Hogan and his friends overlooked however, to tell us that it would be way-laid to set up Irish Water. That being the case, Irish Water is obliged to provide a proper service to the people of Kildorrery, South Tipperary and elsewhere!
