Irish Open a huge boost for Cork

The Irish Open at Fota attracted in the region 100,000 into Cork city and county over its duration.

The Irish Open at Fota attracted in the region 100,000 into Cork city and county over its duration, which not alone gave a huge boost to the local economy, but the region should also greatly benefit from tourism in the future as a result.

An average potential of one in three visitors are expected to return at a later date, according to Fáilte Ireland figures. The event was broadcast internationally to an estimated 300 million viewers with over 160,000 hours of coverage worldwide.

Cork County Council and Cork City Council jointly hosted a welcome reception for golfers, their families, dignitaries and organisers of the Irish Open in Fota House on Tuesday prior to the competition.
