Two Avondhu-area natives tell this week of how they took a desperate 22 hour bus journey across the Andes to reach a special rescue flight back home.
Andrew Cotter from Mitchelstown and his girlfriend Marie Barry from Conna were trapped inside a Covid-19 military lockdown in the Peruvian city of Cusco while desperate efforts were being made here in Ireland to get them out.
Andrew and Marie told The Avondhu that their rescue, organised by Irish diplomats with help from British embassy staff in Lima, was a mammoth 56 hour journey back to Cork.
