Funding cuts too much for Red Kettle Theatre Company
Things fell into place nicely for everyone associated with last weekend's Anglesboro Harvest Fair. The highlight of the festivities was Sunday's fair day which centred on vintage and times past, however, all the events, including the quiz, barbecue and soap box racing were well supported.
Sunday was a day that was perfect for a range of old time farming pursuits, including wyning hay, threshing and harvesting with a scythe - individuals with the necessary skills were secured and these practices were re-enacted for the substantial crowd.
This compact, easily accessible, site adjacent to the village, is ideal for this scale of event and a great array of activities were packed into the fair field. A blacksmith display, dog show, tug-of-war, bouncy castle and vintage car display were just some of the many popular attractions. A wide variety of food was available and of course the weather was perfect.
DRIVE TO SURVIVE STAND
Drive to Survive is a fundraising concept that was devised in south Limerick and thanks to the efforts of the Gallahue family and their supporters, it became a reality. The plan is to get back on the road for 2015 and raise more money for Irish hospices. Volunteers manned a very informative stand at last Sunday's fair and it generated plenty of interest.
LOADS OF MUSIC
Music always features prominently at Anglesboro Harvest Fair and this year was no exception - comhaltas, along with members of the Liam Lynch Pipe Band performed, as did Mick Hayes from Rathcormac. Mick is still at the top of his game and is sounding as good as ever.
TEAM EFFORT
Many hands are required to make the fair a success and fortunately, Anglesboro can always call on a dependable team to turn up and do the work. Everyone did their bit last weekend and they were rewarded with large crowds, a great festival buzz and the satisfaction of seeing people of all ages really enjoy themselves over the 3 days.
