Culture Night and clowns at Friars’ Gate

On this Friday (19th) as part of Culture Night, novelist Helena Close will visit Friars’ Gate Theatre, Kilmallock. Helena will read from her novel Pinhead Duffy followed by Q&A.

Helena, who now lives in Liscannor, Co Clare, was born in Cork in 1959 and grew up in Limerick. She has co-written four books. Her novels include Pinhead Duffy, The Cut of Love and The Clever One. She was appointed County Limerick Writer in Residence in 2012. Pinhead Duffy is due for re-issue in September, its 10th anniversary in limited edition.

Presented in association with Visiting Writers: Limerick 2014 and Limerick City of Culture. Admission free.

CLOWN NOIR

On Friday, 26th September, Orchard Theatre Co presents 'Clown Noir: This is Me', written and directed by Simon Thompson. This theatrical stage show that takes you on a journey through a clown’s life and career, the highs, the lows and the shows. A piece of physical comedy that will evoke empathy, passion and disgust combined with hilarious dark humour.

This is a show for those with curious minds who want to decipher the soul that inhabits the body of a Clown, those who want to see behind the façade of grotesque makeup and costume. In equal parts you will witness comedy, tragedy, joy and pathos.
