Terri Ryan, originally from Mitchelstown, is aiming to change the way the world looks at bullying, as she will be petitioning to have the dictionary definition of the word 'bully' changed, when she launches her new book next week.

Originally from the Square in Mitchelstown, but now living in Galway, Terri's book - 'The Bullies' Predatory Footprint' - will be launched by the former governor of Mountjoy Prison, John Lonergan, with Louise O'Keeffe, who won a victory judgement from the European Courts of Human Rights in January of this year, as a special guest speaker.

GLOBAL PETITION

The launch takes place on Monday, November 10 in The Hotel Meyrick, Eyre Square, Galway and on the night, Terri will also launch a global petition to have the definition of the word 'bully' changed in the dictionary. This is something which Terri feels very strongly about, as the current definition of a bully is 'a person who uses strength or influence to harm and intimidate those who are weaker'.

Terri is seeking to have the definition changed so that it will reflect the idea that a bully and bullying is the use of abusive and offensive behaviour.

The current definition defines the victim as the weaker person, rather than defining the bully as the person who uses harmful and intimidating behaviour that is abusive.

The book has already won a number of awards, has garnered four and five star reviews and it deals with bullying across a multitude of communities and institutions.
