The contractors who were originally granted the tender to build the extension at Colaiste an Chraoibhin, Sammon Contracting Ireland Limited have officially gone into liquidation as of this Tuesday, June 5.
Ted Owens, CE of Cork ETB said that Cork ETB are now re-tendering for the completion of the building project and is in discussion with the design teams to expedite the process to ensure the school extensions will be completed as soon as possible.
In the interim, CETB have stated it will put additional temporary accommodation in place as needed for September 2018.
“Delays in the construction of the new extensions were exacerbated in recent times when Sammon entered into High Court Examinership. Following discussions with the Department of Education and Skills, Cork Education and Training Board (CETB) terminated the contracts with Sammon on the 8th of May,” said Mr Owens.
