Planning permission has been granted for an amusement arcade in Mitchelstown, despite a petition to stop the venture which was submitted to Cork County Council, with over 1,000 signatures.
Cork County Council approved the change of use of the former Weavers Bar at 45 Lower Cork Street to an amusement arcade stating the proposed development would not seriously injure the amenities of the area or of the property in the vicinity.
The Council also decided the new arcade would not compromise the longer term objectives for the town centre set out in the County Development Plan and the Fermoy Municipal District Local Area Plan, would not detract from the heritage of the area and would be in accordance with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area.
Local businessman Martin Lane, who spearheaded the petition against the opening of the amusement arcade, said he was saddened by the outcome.
