Roads remain very dangerous places. Despite a raft of legislation, graphic campaign ads and the best efforts of An Garda Siochana, hundreds of people continue to die.
The consenus is that only fundamental changes in driver behaviour can halt the shocking statistics. Behind these grim figures (23,948 people have lost their lives on Irish roads since records began in 1959) are loved ones who must attempt to pick up the pieces in the aftermath of tragedy.
Some of those loved ones made their way to Loreto Sports Hall in Fermoy last Sunday for a ceremony to mark World Day Of Remembrance For Road Traffic Victims.
