Mitchelstown’s Sean Shanahan is celebrating remarkable success as 2025 begins, with wins at grade 1, 2 and 3 all in the last three months. This brings the total number of winners from the yard to 9 in 15 years, including Kingston Retreat who’s enjoyed two wins and placed twice.
Recently, two horses from his stock were victorious in the UK, with Welsh Charger winning a grade 3 in Wetherby back in November, and bettering that yet again with a grade 2 win last Saturday in Musselburgh. Sired by Westerner, Welsh Charger was originally sold to jockey Rob James, and then later again to a UK syndicate where he is being trained today by Alastair Ralph.
That’s not all for the Glocca Maura-based breeder as another from Sean’s yard, ‘Take No Chances’, sired by Milan, won the Mare’s Hurdle at Ascot on January 18th …
