116 children, aged between 1 hour and 7 and a half years old, are believed to have died at a mother and baby home in Fermoy between the years 1922-1944.

Fermoy local, Katie Drago, is in the process of compiling a list of children who died at the mother and baby home, known at the time as The Nursery Rescue Society, and to date has found 183 infant deaths recorded in Fermoy Hospital during a 22 year period.

Research carried out by Ms Drago indicates that at least half of the infant deaths recorded were to unmarried mothers, likely residing at the mother and baby home at the time.
