More than €400,000 stolen from accounts by former employee last year

Synergy Credit Union in Fermoy say members’ accounts are safe and secure in light of news that more than €400,000 was stolen from accounts following ‘unauthorised transactions’ by a now former employee of the Credit Union.

Chairperson of Synergy Credit Union, Martina Cotter, said an investigation was carried out following discovery of irregularities last September, which has since concluded and all affected accounts have been replenished to their correct balance.

A report of the unauthorised transactions was outlined in a letter circulated to Credit Union members as part of their annual report for 2016, ahead of their AGM which takes place in Fermoy Community Youth Centre this Thursday evening.

In a statement to The Avondhu, Martina Cotter said once the irregularities were confirmed by management, Grant Thornton were commissioned to undertake an investigation.
