‘Living with MS’ is the title of a one day conference to mark World MS Day being held at Oriel House Hotel, Ballincollig, Co Cork from 09:00 to 16:30.

The Lord Mayor, Catherine Clancy will open this event and speakers on the day will include Dr Brian Sweeney, Consultant Neurologist on ‘Managing Multiple Sclerosis in 2014’; Dr Eric Downer, Dept of Anatomy and Neuroscience, UCC on ‘The Therapeutic Role of Cannabinoids in Multiple Sclerosis’ and Professor Michael Hutchinson, Consultant Neurologist, St Vincent’s Hospital on ‘The Relationship between Vitamin D and Multiple Sclerosis’.

Funds raised for World MS Day 2014 will directly support local physiotherapy and symptom management services, operation of the MS Information Line, and crucial one-to-one support and newly diagnosed sessions. World MS Day is Wednesday next, May 28th.

MS is usually diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 40 and there is no known cause or cure for MS.

For the month of May, in the run up to World MS Day, a global ‘One Day Wish’ campaign is urging as many people as possible to share a ‘One Day Wish’ at www.ms-society.ie or with the hashtag #OneDayMS and spread the positive message for a hopeful future. The idea is to encourage people, both with MS and without, to think about barriers to access in their life and make a wish for a world without those barriers.
