Willsie Cussen Cup raises in excess of €3k for Cork Alzheimer Foundation

This weekend, the Galbally Garden Fete will take place with the Willsie Cussen Cup match taking place on Friday night.

Just last week, a cheque for €3,190 was presented to the Cork Alzheimer's Foundation, as it was the nominated charity for the 2012 match. Last year's game saw the players from Galbally and Emly go out to the pitch on a very wet and windy night, but despite the weather, the pockets were deep and the hearts were generous.

Ciaran O'Malley's wife, Marcella attends the Cork Alzheimer's Foundation day care centre and he was overwhelmed by the generosity of people, saying that he was very grateful to the Cussen family for choosing it as the charity to benefit.

Ciaran told The Avondhu that on the night of the match, they collected €1,200 and then through pledges by phone and text, a total amount of €3,190 was raised, which will make a huge difference to the charity.

"The result on the night was Galbally 2-6, Emly 1-4 - a win for Galbally with their captain Pat Cussen taking the cup back to Galbally for the first time. A win for the home side but a bigger win for the Cork Alzheimer's Foundation. Thanks again to all for the many generous donations, it all added up," Ciaran said, thanking everyone for their support and kindness for last year's collection.

The proceeds from this year's cup and Galbally Garden Fete will go towards the community council for projects in the community, such as the upkeep of the community hall, work in the field and other such projects.
