Whitechurch 2-20 Killavullen 1-8
Whitechurch are Co JBHC(1) kingpins following their deserved win over Killavullen in the replayed final at Pairc Ui Rinn on Friday evening last.
The city side got off to a very good start and three rapid points by Darragh Keane and Padraic Dennehy (frees) had them 0-3 to 0-0 ahead after four minutes.
Killavullen were under pressure in midfield and in the half backline with the fleet footed Whitechurch causing a lot of problems to the Killavullen defence.
At the other end Killavullen attack did not get quality ball and they relied mainly on Barry Murphy for scores. Dylan Burke with a point made it 0-4 to 0- 0.
Killavullen had their opening score in the 7th minute a free by Barry Murphy. Good play by Kevin Fox led to a well taken Barry Murphy point. In the 9th minute Killavullen were within a point when Barry Murphy pointed a free.
Whitechurch hit a purple patch with Peter Blake and Padraic Dennehy adding points 0-6 to 0- 3 after 13 minutes. Padraic Dennehy pointed two more frees in the 16th and 18th minutes.
Paul O’Sullivan kept Killavullen in touch with a fine point 0-8 to 0-4. In the 22nd minute good work by Liam Cronin, Paul O’Sullivan and Barry Murphy led to a great point by Sean O’Regan. Whitechurch replied immediatly with a fine point by Peter Blake.
Good play by Ian O’Gorman led to a second Paul O’Sullivan point. Killavullen were back in the race soon after when Barry Murphy converted a free and just two points separated the sides, 0-9 to 0-7.
In the dying moments the winners added a pointed free by Jonathan Scanlon with Peter Blake giving the winners an interval lead 0-11 to 0-7.
Killavullen had their goal early on the resumption. It came when Bartley Hayes, Barry Murphy and Sean O’Regan worked well for John O’Regan who goaled and cut the lead to a point. Amazingly Killavullen had only one more score a point in the remaining 32 minutes of the second half. …
