Denis Motherway has retired from An Garda Siochana after 30 years loyal service. Family members, Gardai, past and present, along with Denis’ many friends, attended his retirement party in Mitchelstown Golf Club.

Inspector Tony O’Sullivan described the Aghada native as professional, dedicated and conscientious. He noted his willingness to get involved in community life and his firm but fair approach to police work.

“Denis was a real community Garda, who took an interest in what was going on around him, he was approachable and always enjoyed an excellent rapport with young and old. He understood people and invariably made good and sensible decisions,” Tony remarked. “He would have a quiet word with those who were stepping out of line and this was usually all that was required”.
He went on to describe Denis’ wife, Rosemarie, also a Garda, as ‘a great woman’.
