Optimism had been rewarded in Fermoy, as Patrick Street is to be resurfaced very shortly, bringing to an end weeks of speculation as to whether works on the poorly-surfaced N72 would be funded.
The news was received on Thursday morning (26th) that €450,000 has been reinstated for the project. Cork County Council are ready to go with the appointment of a contractor; it is understood that the work will begin in late October and occur at night-time.
The project was under doubt as letters dated from May were issued by the TII earlier this year, pausing any work on Patrick Street, along with a number of other projects. However, the good news was shared with The Avondhu by Fermoy councillor Noel McCarthy first-thing on Thursday morning, who had previously expressed his optimism that political pressure would have the desired effect.
