The light up Castletownroche for Christmas campaign is on target to bring magical lighting to the village this festive season and organisers are appealing for volunteers to help erect the lights the coming three weekends, ahead of the big switch on.

Work will start this Saturday at 10am in Hunters Park and will continue the following two Saturdays, November 24 and December 1. All interested in helping please come along on the day or you can ring Bridie on 086-3498323 for details.

Remember, many hands make light(s) work – or shine brightly in this case!

This campaign, which began earlier in the year with the opening fundraiser featured on The Avondhu (mock wedding), has, to date, raised €7,000 and the committee wish to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped in raising this considerable sum of money.

A big thank you to the local businesses and all the people that gave very generously to this appeal for the benefit of the whole community.

"This is a 3-year plan so we hope to add to it over the next two years. The official switching on of the lights will be on Friday, December 7, with special guests Santa and Mrs Claus. Hope to see ye all there", one of the organisers Lesley Sheehan, told The Avondhu.
