The long awaited upgrade to the Mitchelstown Water Treatment Plant is now at detailed design stage.
However it is expected that the project will be not be complete until the end of 2021, with construction expected to commence in the second half of 2020. This will follow on from completion of the planning and procurement process.
The announcement was made at Monday's Northern Committee meeting of Cork County Council in Mallow and although it was welcome news, there were concerns among councillors in relation to the timeframe.
“… Is there anything can be done, even at this late stage, to move forward the much needed upgrade for the present and future needs in the town?” queried Cllr Frank O’Flynn.
