Armed gardai and the garda helicopter rushed to Ballysaggart near Lismore when two people were injured by shotgun blasts at a home in the area.
The injured man and woman, are in their 60s and understood to be in a long term relationship, have lived in the area for a number of years.
Both were taken to hospital in Waterford city where they received treatment for non life threatening injuries.
Sources have told The Avondhu that one theory is that the incident arose out of a domestic argument and gardai are not looking for any one else in connection with the shooting.
