Late last week it emerged that two members of the Irish Defence Forces, who were in isolation in Kilworth Camp prior to deploying to Lebanon, had tested positive for Covid-19.
The troops were part of the 116 Infantry Battalion and had recently located to Kilworth Camp to undergo an isolation period of 14 days in advance of their departure.
In a statement to The Avondhu, a spokesperson for the Defences Forces said: “During this process two (2) 116 Infantry Battalion personnel tested positive for the virus. Containment protocol was immediately enacted and was followed by a period of contact tracing.”
Continuing, the spokesperson noted: “Both personnel who tested positive and all identified close contacts did not deploy as scheduled.”
