Tragic death of Ballyduff native on River Blackwater

On Saturday morning the village of Conna, in North Cork, woke up to the sad news that well-known local, Dermot Bolger had tragically drowned in a fishing incident on the River Blackwater.

The previous evening, Dermot and a friend had made the short journey to Ballyduff, County Waterford.

It is understood that when Mr Bolger, aged in his 50s, did not return to the agreed meeting point at around 8.30pm, his companion raised the alarm.

Speaking to The Avondhu one Conna resident described Dermot Bolger as ‘unassuming and an absolute gentleman.
