In recent days, a new plastic bollard has been erected at the entrance to Abbey Street in Fermoy.

It is understood that the plastic barrier was put in place by Cork County Council as part of Project ACT, an initiative which is striving to reinvigorate the centres of many towns across Cork, following the Covid-19 lockdown.

Speaking to The Avondhu, Councillor Noel McCarthy explained that preventing access to Abbey Street from MacCurtain Street was a temporary measure.

The councillor went on to point out that access to the laneway was still possible from Ashe Quay.
