It was with great sadness the people of Mitchelstown learned of the news of Tom Roche's passing on Thursday last, October 3 in the Mercy University Hospital, Cork.

Well known in the town from running The Central Bar and the Spar supermarket on Upper Cork Street in the town, he would also have been a staunch committee member for the Festival of the Galtees. Tom was one of the driving forces behind the festival. Each year, he was very involved in organising the very successful St Patrick's Day parades and for the huge contribution the festival has made to Tearmonn Ui Chaoimh and other charities over the years.

Tom was a great family man and he leaves behind his wife Anne, and children Esther (Kenneally), Noreen, Anne Marie and Mary B (O'Sullivan). Anne and Tom would have been celebrating their 50-year wedding anniversary this year.

A staunch Fine Gael man, Tom was also a lover of all things GAA and in his time, he played with Ballindangan, Glanworth and Kilworth.

He also liked to keep up to date with current affairs and news of local, national or global interest. A regular Mass goer, Tom would have carried out many collections for charities and other causes he believed in over the years.

Tom was laid to rest on Monday last, October 7 in Brigown New Cemetery. To his wife Anne and family, we extend our sincere sympathy. May he rest in peace.
