Prospective students and their parents turned out in strength for the annual Presentation Secondary School, Mitchelstown open night held on Wednesday, 12th November. The large attendance, friendliness of teachers and staff, along with the positive feedback, made for a very successful event.

Visitors were given a guided tour of facilities, which included science laboratories, computer rooms, home economics kitchen, sports hall and a music department.

Having welcomed everyone, principal, Lorraine O'Keeffe said that Presentation Secondary School was committed to high standards and that teachers strove to maximise the potential of each student. While considerable emphasis was placed on academic excellence, this wasn't at the expense of extra curricular activities which were an important part of secondary school experience, she said.

POSITIVE EXPERIENCE

Head girl, Jade Quirke spoke about the positive learning environment that was fostered in Presentation Secondary School, the comraderie of classmates and the support of teachers. While first year student, Rachel Lynch from Kildorrery, detailed how the school's support network helped with the transition from national to secondary school.

Speaking on behalf of the parents' council, Mairead Pendle, said students were offered a diverse and interesting range of subjects. She went on to give a ringing endorsement of teachers who were always willing to advise and assist.

The substantial crowd was entertained by the school choir and while parents were treated to refreshments, prospective pupils were introduced to a variety of activities.

Those who took time to attend the open night were universal in their praise of the school and its teachers. Anybody seeking additional information is welcome to visit the school's website - www.presmitchelstown.ie
