The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Tallow is the very fitting venue for an upcoming fundraising concert to benefit another religious congregation in the local community, St Mary's Abbey in Glencairn.

The home of Ireland's only Cistercian monastery in Ireland, St Mary's Abbey is in need of upgrading and renovation and a plan for such works is underway. It includes upgrading the accommodation wing in the Abbey enclosure, the refurbishment of the monastery guesthouse and provision of a new visitor centre, the provision of a new facility for the community's expanding greeting card business and improved fire safety, accessibility and general services to the monastery buildings.

The fundraising concert promises to be a very special one with two musical guests who need no introduction. Noirin Ni Rian is very well known for her spiritual songs. She also sings Celtic music, Sean-nós and Indian songs. Liam Lawton is a noted singer and song-writer with his own brand of sacred and inspirational music celebrated the world over.

The two special guests will be joined by local artists and the parish, school choirs and various local artists are busy preparing for the event. Tickets cost €12 and are available from Cahill's in Lismore, All Kinds of Everything in Tallow and the Credit Union in Cappoquin.

It promises to be a most enjoyable evening of music and song, with special guests of such renown and tickets are expected to sell quickly, so people are advised to get theirs early to avoid disappointment.
