A one day walking festival takes place in Araglin on this Saturday, October 14. Promoted as 'The Highwayman Challenge', the event retraces the footsteps of legendary bandit Willie Brennan, who frequented the Knockmealdown Mountains during his outlaw career.

The most formidable of these guided walks is a 30km trek over some very challenging terrain – this has a 9am start.

Other options are an intermediate walk (15km) with an 11am start and a beginners route of 6.5km, which gets under way at 12.30pm.

The assembly point is Araglin Hall and it goes without saying that walkers should come suitably attired and equipped. The 30km walk is for experienced participants only – children are welcome to partake in the beginners' walk.

A JOINT VENTURE

Proceeds from 'The Highwayman Challenge' are going to Araglin National School Parents' Association and Araglin Racquetball Club, who are sending representatives to the World Junior Racquetball Championships in America. Refreshments will be served before and after walks.
