It's that time of year again with the announcement that the annual switching on of the Christmas lights in Fermoy will take place on Friday, November 24 at 6pm, outside Synergy Credit Union on Patrick Street.

The family event will coincide with Black Friday in the town, with dozens of businesses offering customers savings and special offers.

Once again, Synergy Credit Union has continued their sponsorship of the Christmas lights in Fermoy; this week they presented a cheque of €4,000 to the Fermoy Christmas Lights Committee.

Since announcing their sponsorship three years ago, Synergy Credit Union has donated thousands of euros to support the initiative, allowing for the purchase of new lights and assisting with the running of the lights over the Christmas period.

The Fermoy Christmas Lights Committee has spent a further €15,000 on new lights this year, meaning that Christmas in Fermoy this year will be more spectacular than ever.

The estimated cost of maintaining the Christmas lights this year is €20,000, between storage, electricity and installation costs. In the coming weeks, the committee will be contacting businesses around the town seeking sponsorship.

Various fundraising events and street collection days will be held between now and Christmas in order to help fund the Christmas lights this year.
