Pupils at Bishop Murphy Memorial National School in Fermoy are no strangers when it comes to big performances and this was reflected in the quality of last Friday night's show in The Palace Theatre.
Weeks of hard work paid off handsomely for the lads who were well tutored by their teachers, Mr O'Donoghue and Mr Grumbridge along with Mrs Dillon, Miss Coughlan, Mrs Ahern and Miss Ryan.
Those on stage got fantastic support from a large and appreciative audience who were treated to a variety of sketches by boys from 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th class. The set and lighting were excellent and a great effort was put in to the eye-catching costumes.
The 3 hour show started with 'Big Bad Ben Of Bethlehem' - an interesting take on the traditional nativity. This was followed by 'Little Red Riding Hood' (also with a twist) and 'Fermoy Mouse & Cork Mouse', an adaptation of an Aesop fable. The older students combined to stage 'A Lad In Blunderland' which was also very well received - the school choir also performed.
Raffle prizes at the show were sponsored by a number of well known businesses and for this the school are most grateful. The list includes: Riordan's Supervalu, Fermoy; Toss Bryan's; Herlihy's Centra, Fermoy; Fermoy Medical Hall, JDI Hygiene Supplies, Jones Business Systems, Simply Office Solutions and Cummins Sports.
Like so many other progressive schools, Bishop Murphy Memorial benefits from the energy and initiative of a hardworking parents' association and they were out in force last Friday night.
With the sound of applause ringing in their ears, pupils can now look forward to a well merited festive break having providing a top class night of entertainment for the people of Fermoy.
