Fermoy’s Canon Sheehan Chapel celebrates 100 years
On Sunday last we all came together on Ashe Quay, Fermoy for our first 5k fun run and 2k family walk. The atmosphere was very good as both young and old, runners and walkers waited for the off. The runners among us took off at 11am sharp and were followed shortly after by those of us who were walking. The enthusiasm amongst runners and walkers was excellent and well done to all who took part. We all met back at Gaelscoil de hÍde where refreshments were enjoyed by all participants.
We would like to thank Cairde de hÍde for organising the event. In running the event we received great help and goodwill from a large number of people and a big shout of thanks to Vinny and Olly for all their help and support, to Ger Slattery for leading the walkers, to Jimmy Hennessy of Hennessy Cycles, to Fermoy Print, to Pauline Moriarty, town clerk and to Barnes Jewellers, Fermoy. A big thank you also to the members of An Gardaí who helped hugely in the policing of the event, thanks also to all the stewards who helped and also to Dr Marty Moher who was our doctor on duty. So all in all we can say that a great time was had by all. Well done to you all and keep up the training for next year.
CHURCH GATE COLLECTION
Our annual church gate collection will take place on this weekend, Saturday 2 and Sunday, March 3. Any parents who would like to give a helping hand may give their name to Vinny in the office or to any member of cairde de hÍde.
ST PATRICK'S DAY
It is planned to walk in the St Patrick’s Day parade again this year. The children enjoy taking part.
In conjunction with St Patrick’s Day it was decided to make available the opportunity for people to purchase fresh shamrock while also supporting a fundraiser. The newly designed lapel will look well for the St Patrick’s Day parade. Details will be available in the next week or so.
Confirmation takes place on Tuesday, April 23 and we remind parents of 5th class that it is their turn to cater for refreshments.
1st Holy Communion will take place on Saturday, April 27 and parents of 3rd class are reminded that they are on catering duties. I apologise for mentioning that it was 1st class on last week’s Avondhu – sorry for the error.
NEXT CAIRDE MEETING
Our next meeting of Cairde de hÍde will take place on Tuesday, March 19 at 8pm. All welcome.
